In 2006, we harvested our first blueberries in Mexico. Today, the blueberries growing at SunnyRidge’s Blueberry Farms of Mexico are proprietary southern high-bush varieties that require low chill hours to grow and fruit. These proprietary varieties are proving to be some of the heartiest in the region, producing large, great-tasting berries enjoyed by all who taste them. Production is available eight months out of the year, from October through May. |

It takes about nine months from planting to produce the first blackberry harvest, depending on the actual planting date and the target harvest window.
Our first shipments of Mexican blackberries came during 2001 from SunnyRidge Farm Mexico. Since, SunnyRidge has expanded its blackberry operations to include Blueberry Farms of Mexico with its first harvest in 2007.
Today, production is available from October through May. We are currently growing the traditional Tupi blackberry variety and have already committed hectares to testing additional varieties that grow thornless and produce great-tasting berries. |

SunnyRidge raspberry farm in Mexico |

SunnyRidge harvested its first raspberries from its company owned farms in the fall of 2008 with much success. Our raspberries here are grown in hoops that help them grow during the winter months and protect them from rain and the strong rays of the Mexican sun.
Like our Mexican blueberries and blackberries, our raspberry production is available eight months out of the year, from October through May. Hectares have already been committed to testing new varieties to bring to market. |
 |
We grow proprietary varieties at a dedicated nursery for farmers who agree to protect these varieties for the breeder and to market their fruit exclusively through the distribution channels of SunnyRidge Farm.
Blueberry, blackberry and raspberry plants are currently available for purchase.

With the success of our varieties and our increased understanding of the country’s business culture, we are ready for rapid expansion of our company-owned farms as well as contract-grower farms.
We are currently recruiting growers to expand operations in blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. Our immediate goal is to represent a full third of the blueberry industry in Mexico. What’s more, we are working to expand our blackberry export business here as well. |

Research is a costly, time-consuming process that
requires diligence and dedication. However, it is an
effort we are enthusiastic about making—which is no
surprise in light of the innovative history of
SunnyRidge Farm.
During our extensive research on growing berries in
Mexico, we have been enlightened by how the different
berry varieties respond to the various climates and
elevations in the country.
After testing many varieties, we have arrived at our
optimum choices. These varieties, many of which are
proprietary, can now deliver big, beautiful,
great-tasting berries to our customers.
